"..IF THEY WOULD ONLY LET ME DANCE"

My grandmother's diary: Monday, January 22, 1894 (she had just turned 18) -

Went to school. Maggie said she wanted to tell me some thing and when I ask her what it was she said "I'll join church if you will". I told her I would have joined before "if" they would only let me dance. She said the same So we both decided we could be good and not belong to the church and still retain the right to dance.

This was my dear sweet old grandmother? =:o)

Made me think of the movie "Footloose." What a different time to grow up in. And, what great penmanship!
