When I was painting utility doors this week, I ran across a tattered instruction chart taped to one door for a carpet sweeper we must have brought with us when we moved here 48 years ago.

Bissell and others have made these pre-Roomba devices for over a hundred years (that's a page from a 1908 Sears catalog) - and still make them to this day (Kohl's on line, $25)
