

For humans and dogs, holly berry consumption can be harmful. Many other animals, however - like the juvenile squirrels I photographed yesterday in our holly tree - enjoy the berries and can consume them safely.
The young squirrel's survival can sometimes depend on their ability to "freeze" in place, and that's what they're doing here. There were a total of five in the tree, and I've photographed four of them spread out on one branch (and highlighted their locations in the bottom photo).
