TOES





I remember well the machine above, a staple in shoe stores when I was growing up. The Shoe Fluoroscope (read: xray machine) allowed the buyer - and anyone else - to view the fit of the front half of their feet in the selected shoes. Children, including the undersigned, found these machines absolutely fascinating - you could watch your toes wiggle!

At some point, around 1960, it dawned on the more enlightened that regular exposure to this level of xrays was not really in anyone's best interest health-wise, and the machines were banned.
