Back In The Old Neighborhood
The cedar Screech Owl nesting box I made years ago sat high in a Camphor tree at the edge of our yard until a 2005 hurricane took down half the tree and left the nesting box in pieces on the ground. I relocated the box to our north house gable, but the destruction of nearby owl habitat by hurricanes lessened the chances for owl visitors. In December, I removed the box from our house.
The Camphor tree has regrown, and this week I cleaned out the nesting box, added fresh bedding and and reattached the box close to it's old location.
I haven't heard a Screech Owl call in the neighborhood in over a year....
