The science explanation behind the silver sheen on a Gulf Frittilary butterfly's wings (the camera pictures the silver as blue in this indoor shot from last year) is too lengthy for this blog.
When I enlarged this old blog picture, I noticed that even his antenna tips have "silver" pin stripe decoration:
