LIVING HISTORY

A saw this Bald Cypress photo in a book I was reading yesterday*, and the author was speculating that it was probably a sapling when Ponce de Leon was trampling through the scrub palmettos looking for...well, you know what he was looking for.
Bald Cypress trees live a long time (e.g., Lady Liberty: 2000 yrs, The Senator: 3500 yrs)
.
Brownbird - Throwback Thursday
*a library book, "Florida's Magnificent Water." This particular tree, in Green Swamp in Sumter County, sustained a massive injury and still thrives..

I thought they cut them all down, but one of the FB florida hiking groups has people posting pics with big ones deep in the woods
