FOUNDING FATHER HERITAGE

We were running an errand downtown this week, and stopped by Greenwood Cemetery and Francis Eppes' gravesite.
Eppes was Thomas Jefferson's grandson, born at Monticello in 1801. A controversial figure (like his grandfather, he was a slave owner), he was instrumental in the formation of West Florida Seminary - a precursor to Florida State University.
Eppes settled in Orlando in 1869, where he lived the rest of his life. He died in 1881.

A man of his time...controversial only by today's standards
