STORM CASUALTY

With heavy heart, I removed our original muscadine grapevine today. It was a hurricane victim over a decade ago, when the storm toppled it's arbor and damaged the plant itself.
Muscadine grapevines can live for decades (or in the case of the "Mother Vine" on Roanoke Island, 100's of years).
What makes this vine's demise especially poignant is the fact that it is a direct offspring of a vine originally planted by great grandpa Setzer decades ago.
