FROM HORSES TO ROCKETS

Above, my Great Aunt Lula - pictured in the early 1890's (she was born in 1889, the same year as Adolf Hitler, Edwin Hubble, Charlie Chaplin). I never met Lula, but I know where she is on our family tree.
When she was born, the world either walked or used horses for transportation* - there were over 20 million horses in the United States alone. Earlier in the very month she died in 1961, Yuri Gagarin was sent into space by the Soviet Union...
