The individual above, practicing the art of painting signs by hand, is part of a rare breed of craftsperson that once was as common as the neighborhood grocer. I noticed her working the used car lot at a local Ford dealership last week. She's been sign painting for decades, following in her parent's footsteps. Although she likes her work, she confided in me that she's beginning to feel the physical side of it (she's 59 years old).
