"Big Bertha" - A Legacy

That fuzzy image of the blue truck in the top photo is one I snapped a couple of days ago, while stopped at a red light. The truck in the photo, now privately owned, belonged to SeaWorld when I worked there. Dubbed Big Bertha, seeing it again across the years stroked my curiosity as to why so many oversized items end up with a "Big Bertha" moniker: Big Bertha golf clubs, our Big Bertha model rockets we flew many years ago - where did it start?
It didn't take long to find out: prior to WWI, Krupp Works, the German steel company, developed a large howitzer cannon, naming it "Big Bertha" in honor of the company's CEO - Bertha Krupp (bottom photo).
