Double Standard

Anyone that has pumped up a bicycle tire will instantly recognize the valve in the top picture - it's called a Schrader valve, and has probably been around, unchanged, for a century. It never occurred to me then, when I purchased a new inner tube for Nana's bike last week, that there might be another valve type used on bicycle tires - one completely incompatible with our air pump and tire gauge....a Presta valve.
Well, it validates my old theory that there has to be in the universe - for reasons that sometimes defy logic - two types of everything (Betamax and VHS, SAE and Metric, U.S. and Foreign electrical systems, DVD-R and DVD+R......the list is endless).

Well those Presta valves make the tube 20% lighter!

Actually never heard of a Presta valve....I would have assumed that racing/competition might have a different style but not the local Walmart.
