Weather Vanes

This morning's inclement weather reminded me of a series of weather vane photos I had recently taken at Ashley's apartment complex in G'ville. More form than function nowadays, weather vanes have been around for thousands of years.

A fully functional weather vane (bottom photo) stands next to Whitehorse International Airport in the Yukon - it's a retired DC-3, which only needs a 5 knot wind to get it going: pilots actually use it to determine wind direction.
