When we passed by this house on Beard Road the other day, I paused to snap a photo of their VW bus collection (they have a beetle, too), which they've retained over the years.
The original idea for placing something like this on an extended bug chassis came from a Dutch VW distributor in 1947 by the name of Ben Pon - that's his sketch above. I've pictured an early "23 window" version, along with VW 2011 concept "Bulli" (the German nickname) - which, powered by an electric motor and controlled by an iPad, may actually go into production.

No post about VW's would really be complete without a view of the engine compartment - an area where the male members of this family have spent many an hour..... =:o)
