Bright Desert Oasis

I received this stunning night image of Las Vegas this week from a NASA program I subscribe to, and thought I would share it with you. For reference, I've added identical daytime images from Bing Maps (middle photo) and Google Earth. In the night image, notice the dark tarmacs of McCarran International Airport - just below the center of the photo - and Nellis AFB, upper right corner. Another dark area is the mass of Frenchman Mountain to the East. Las Vegas is situated in the Mohave Desert, so everything outside the city is pitch black.
.
The Las Vegas strip is said to be the brightest spot on Earth at night, and this image was captured by astronauts aboard the International Space Station, whizzing by at 15,000 mph. Unlike Kendalle and I going 25 mph on Christmas Eve, those guys didn't even blur their shot! =:o)
