A year ago today, we had just started a week's vacation near the North Carolina/Georgia border, a few miles from the beginning of the Appalachian Trail. Hiking on Black Rock Mountain, I noted a proliferation of land snails, and brought back several to place in a home terrarium.
As it turned out, there was a stiff learning curve in the proper care of the snails, far from their natural environment. A year later, only a single snail thrives (that's him/her above, heading for some iceberg lettuce - *Gourmand - loves to eat )
