Oh, sure, you can look down the track, but where's the fun in that? The best way to tell if the train is coming is to do as the Indians did in the old western movies: press your ear against the track and listen! If you're still uncertain as to whether a train is coming, do get a second opinion (see third photo down).
Sure enough, a train was coming!! =:o)
